As I sit and ponder this marvelous life-changing truth, my eyes wander just outside my window. There is freshness in the air, beauty all around, and fragrance filling my nostrils – Spring has sprung.
Not only has the season and time changed but so it seems has everything else. Jonquils are poking their heads out of the ground, the grass is turning back to green, and trees are budding then flowering at alarming rates.
The animals also show evidence of new life – squirrels running helter-skelter digging up nuts hidden last fall, birds flying to and fro busily building their nests, groundhogs snooping around looking for food, and the does feeding several times a day. It seems all creation has arisen from a deep slumber and is actively preparing for something BIG…
Each and every one of those things points to change; a newness – new life.
My mind again focuses back on Jesus is Risen! There are so many reasons to praise Him. There is coming a day when we too will be changed – when all will be new. D. L. Moody said it best: “Someday you will read in the papers that Moody is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it. At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now.”
As you celebrate the fact that Jesus is Risen, do not forget to share with your grandchildren that there is coming a day when those who have placed their trust in Jesus will be changed as well.
The Bible says we will be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye. Scripture also tells us that we will be arrayed in robes of righteousness. But in the meantime, help your grandchildren to be clothed in the armor of God.
I also wonder about the power that was shown in Jesus’ resurrection. This Spring we have suffered through tumultuous downpours, mighty winds, large hail, and even tornadoes. The power exhibited in and through these storms was enormous, yet a small example of God’s amazing and all-encompassing power.
Two earthquakes were experienced during the time of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. Even more than these natural events, God showed His power in victory over sin and death! No longer would mankind be under the penalty and power of sin, for they had been conquered by Jesus.
Now through His strength, we can do all things as we rely on that power – the power that raised Jesus from the dead. Do your grandchildren realize the power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to them? What can you do intentionally to share that truth with them? Maybe the next time a powerful spring storm rolls in, you can use that opportunity to share about God’s power, especially shown through “Jesus is Risen” – conquering sin and death!
We can praise God and rely on His power each day while waiting for something BIG still to come. God promises that we too will rise one day. Because Jesus is Risen as the first fruits, we too will rise. Jesus borrowed a tomb, for He would not need it long. He would not be staying in the grave and neither will we. What a wonderful promise that we can count on.
We will also see our loved ones who are already there. Doesn’t this just make you want to take as many people – children and grandchildren – with you? We will be in God’s presence and dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Time will be eternal and there will be no more need of a resurrection, for there will be no more death.
All will be changed – a new heaven and a new earth. Eyes have not seen and ears have not heard what God has prepared for us. Spring is a wonderful reawakening but is nothing compared to heaven. This Easter season, do not forget to proclaim your faith in Jesus is Risen – He is Risen Indeed – So will we.
