The Godly Influence and Opportunity of Grandparenting

Larry Fowler had the opportunity to speak with Dr. James Dobson on his Family Talk radio show a few months ago. The segment, over two days, was titled The Godly Influence and Opportunity of Grandparenting.

If you have not had the chance to listen to it, we highly recommend that you take the time. Below are links to both segments!

The power of godly grandparents and even great grandparents came through as Larry and Dr. Dobson shared. Dr. Dobson testified that my “paternal grandmother and my maternal great grandmother did more to shape my spiritual understanding even than my (godly) parents…talked about Jesus all day long.”

The broadcast emphasized the importance of impressing Biblical truths and God’s Word on your children and grandchildren all day long. Dr. Dobson spoke of his grandmother and great grandmother laying the foundation of faith that holds him steady even till today.

There is power in God’s Word – let’s share it faithfully and consistently.

It was not just centered on their speech and example but on their praying! Dr. Dobson spoke of four generational praying and the influence that his great grandfathers’ prayers had on who he is and what he does to this day. Dr. Dobson cautioned us to not underestimate the power of our prayers. He was told that his great grandfather prayed every day for an hour for his children and his children’s children and those yet to be born. The prayers of that great grandfather reached across four generations of time – just think about that! Do you realize your prayers can have that impact?

One of the best ways to get a grandparenting ministry started in your church is to gather with others to pray for your children and grandchildren. 9 Ways to Teach Generosity to Your Grandchildren

One of the most important virtues we can pass down to our grandchildren is generosity—an outward expression of love rooted in the heart of God. Teaching our grandchildren generosity is more than showing them how to share; it is showing them how to reflect Christ in the way they live.

Three Ways God Shows His Faithfulness

Most of us will gather later this month to enjoy what I believe is the best mixture of flavors, textures, and colors on the dining room table all year. At some point, the conversation is likely to turn toward what we are grateful for. I love this part of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, mostly because I wait with anticipation to hear the things my grandchildren thank God for.
