Biblical Worldview Tools for All Ages

Written by Roger Wheelock, President of Greater Than I Ministries

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the Truth” (3 John 1:4)

On the other hand, there is no greater sorrow than seeing them walk away from the Truth.

As we look back on the wonder of walking alongside our children while they grew from birth to toddler and toddler to teen, experiencing joyful memories as well as heartaches along the way, how can we not be overflowing with gratitude for the blessing of sharing our lives with them? And once they leave home and establish their own lives away from us, we may then experience a hole in our hearts that only by keeping in touch with them can be filled.

In a culture where many children are walking away from faith and family values, building a biblical worldview is essential.

Scripture teaches that families flourish when Christ is the foundation, parents equip their children with truth, and each generation learns to discern God’s wisdom from the world’s ideas. A biblical worldview anchors families in truth, strengthens legacy, and brings the “no greater joy” of seeing children walk faithfully with God.

What is a biblical worldview? A biblical worldview is seeing every area of life—family, culture, history, truth, and morality—through the lens of God’s Word rather than the ideas of the world.

A Crisis of Knowledge and Calling

What no one wants to see is their child coming home one day having rejected the values you raised them to live by—turning 180° in all their views. Then, to sadly watch as they relocate far away and rarely contact you because they have little in common with the family.

Why do children walk away from faith? Children often drift from faith when they are not taught how to think biblically, discern truth from error, and apply Scripture to real-life cultural challenges.

In my 35 years of leadership in four denominations, I’ve witnessed this occurring in real time, over and over—even in the church. The question is, why is this happening, and what can we do about it? For this reason, our family began our ministry—Greater Than I …—to seek an answer to that question and do something to reverse the trend.

Hosea 4:6 declares, “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” This scripture passage speaks of the intimate knowledge of: who IS our God and what does He require of us? We’re not here by accident. We have been created for a wonderful and challenging purpose—for a time such as this! There is Hope on the horizon!

What Really Matters? Building a Family Legacy That Lasts

What do we all desire as our legacy? Maybe this: Your family remains close throughout your lives, weathering the winds and waves without breaking. Maybe it is that your faith is passed on to them.

How can parents and grandparents pass on faith? Faith is passed on by living it daily, teaching Scripture intentionally, modeling discernment, and helping children apply God’s truth to every area of life.

Unless the Lord Builds the House

Psalm 127:1 speaks specifically to this heritage, saying, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.”

Here we are likened to builders of a house, which is exactly what each family becomes. Every house requires a strong foundation—one that will stand through the fiercest storms. The psalm points to Christ—the Truth—and the sure foundation for every home.

The Bible proclaims that His Word reveals the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth; and that the Scriptures contain “everything we need for life and godliness.” However, we’re also told that we must dig deeply and continually into the Bible in search of wisdom to navigate this world. There is no substitute.

Hebrew 11:6 declares: “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is [God of all creation], and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

Raising Arrows for the Battle

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth.” (Psalm 127:3-4)

The second half of Psalm 127 is reminiscent of the scene in Nehemiah 4 where “those who were building the wall [establishing their families]… carried materials and did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other.”

The Psalm pictures parents as warriors raising their children to become arrows sent into the battleground against the evils surrounding us. With one hand, we raise our families throughout our daily struggles, and with the other, we are equipping them for the battles to come.

Living in a Battleground of Ideas

This is where the term “biblical worldview” comes into play. We cannot live in seclusion, trying to shelter our families from the deadly ideas pummeling us 24/7.

Whether we like it or not, we live in a battleground of ideas, and we’re required by God to “demolish every thought that comes against the knowledge of God, taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). We will be successful if we diligently search to know His promises and principles, to become practiced in discerning good from evil, and then live by those God-given precepts in every area of our lives.

The psalm concludes by promising that those who equip their children to apply the principles of Scripture to every area of life will become our heritage from the Lord, and “Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them!”

Practical Ways to Pass the Faith to the Next Generation

Do you want to be effective in raising up virtuous, courageous, and righteous “arrows” to send into their generation and into eternity, whether they be your children or grandchildren? Here are a few suggestions.

1. Teach your family true history!

Read books with your family about triumphant Christians, such as Corrie Ten Boom (The Hiding Place), George Washington, John Adams, Wilbur Wilberforce, George Washington Carver, Abigail Adams, to name but a few.

None of us were dropped from a helium balloon into a historical vacuum. God, who is the Author of all history, has been directing His-story throughout the ages. He is the playwright, and we are the actors. We have parts to play and lines to deliver. We can study our roles and be aroused to new heights by learning from great examples in history who were themselves the fruit of their ancestors.

We can inspire our heritage (and ourselves) to see our family as part of the bigger plan of God—one that will continue for generations to come after we’re gone!

2. Teach your grandkids (and their parents) to think like Christ in all areas of life.

Gift to them a biblical worldview. Our “You Are What You Think” textbooks, videos, and short booklets are simple to use and require no experience. Just go through the 12 subjects one-by-one, reading the lesson for the week (you too!), answering the questions, and joining with the others to watch a short video and discuss the answers to the questions together.

We promise you will learn in leaps and bounds along with your children and grandchildren, and the experience will unite you all. The Apostle Paul prays that we would all be of the same mind. A family that thinks together, stays together.

You’ll enjoy wonderful fellowship as everyone—young and old—learn to discern the good ideas from the evil in our culture by comparing God’s Word against the radical ideas of the world. To learn more, visit our website or stop by our booth at the 2026 Legacy Grandparenting Summit.
