One of the best things we can do as older people is to intentionally mentor those who follow us. We are “mentoring” those around us by just being present, but we can and should also intentionally mentor others – our adult kids, our grandkids, and younger people all around us in our churches and our communities. What does it mean to be a mentor, how do we mentor others, and what are the powerful implications of mentoring? Mentoring others is a powerful way to finish well.
We may think our influence on our grandchildren is like a small pebble dropping into a pond with barely a ripple to show. However, God sees our life like a boulder making a huge splash of influence with ripples carrying to the far shore. We are going to discuss 7 principles for living a life of influence that will benefit our grandchildren no matter what our past regrets or hard realities may be.
This pre-conference session will integrate both biblical and research-based insights related to a grandparent’s role in the family. You will learn best practices and practical applications for grandparenting based on the five pillars of grandparenting: heritage, example, authority, reconciliation and teaching. This would be an excellent choice for new grandparents or anyone who desires to have a strong foundation for intentional grandparenting.
God has begun a powerful movement of intentional grandparenting that will continue to gain momentum for years to come. Would you like to be part of that movement? Would you like to learn how to more quickly and effectively awaken Christian grandparents in our country to be instruments of grace and truth, and influence the youngest generations? The Legacy Coalition has some big dreams and Larry would love to share them with you. This breakout session is especially for pastors and high-level ministry leaders who want to be more effective equippers and motivators of the more than 30 million Christian grandparents who will impact generations to come.
This session will focus on the unique contributions that grandfathers make in their families. With increased family fragmentation, grandfathers must be proactive and step up their efforts to strengthen their households and to combat “grandfatherlessness.” Dr. Canfield will provide a solid framework for good grandfathering and discuss many practical applications for today’s active grandpas.
Visits with grandkids will usually go much better if you plan ahead for their time with you. In this breakout session you will be equipped with dozens of creative craft and activity ideas that will enhance the visits ahead. Each project will also include an “extend the discussion” thought which will help you use the activity to speak spiritual truth into the lives of your children’s children.
What does it look like to be a spiritual heritage builder for your grandkids? It begins with vision and grows out of connectedness. With three adult children and eleven grandkids, Glen and Ellen have numerous insights to share—both from mistakes they have made and from what has worked well to foster close relationships with their adult kids and grandkids. Come journey with them and discover the ideas you need, the hope you crave, and the grace you must rely on to influence future generations for God’s kingdom.
What exactly does the Bible have to say about grandparenting? Come to this seminar to gain a laser-like focus on the role of a grandparent as well as to learn the responsibilities grandparents are given by God from the Bible. And how can grandparents bridge the cultural gaps that exist between them and their children and grandchildren? This session will describe recent major cultural shifts and how you can help the next generation navigate them successfully.
