In this session, we will aim to help you develop a vision for what God calls you to be and to pursue during your retirement years. What shapes our convictions of how we view our retirement years? How much does culture shape our views? How much do the Scriptures shape our views? How much does our Christian community shape our views? Let’s refine and refocus our vision of all that God calls us to be “for such a time as this.”
More than ever Christ-followers are facing challenging times. The church desperately needs skilled leaders to navigate the increasingly complex cultural waters ahead. Godly grandparents can play a strategic role in helping the next generation grow their leadership acumen--rooted in biblical wisdom, a winsome spirit and courageous grit. Join Steve & Valerie Bell for a visionary conversation about specific strategies for grandparents to influence leadership in children that would impact the church for generations to come.
If you want to invest in and impact the lives of your grandchildren, work hard at building a strong relationship with and invest in your adult children. We’ll address these questions. How do the Scriptures address this subject? What are the “best practices” essential to building strong relationships with and supporting your adult children, the parents of your grandkids? How will your relationships with your adult children impact your grandparenting?
What do Carol Burnett, Oprah Winfrey and Willie Nelson have in common? They were raised by their grandparents. According to recent U.S. Census data, 4.9 million American children are being raised solely by their grandparents. If this number continues to rise, and most believe it will, by 2020 grandparents will be raising approximately 10 million children. Teresa will share inspirational stories of grandparents she met through her blog, NanaHood.com, who thought they were finished being parents, but suddenly found themselves raising their grandchildren. She will also share what they have learned from their experiences, as well as tips on how and where to get help.
What is the biblical role of a grandparent? Can you summarize this in a sentence or even a word? Every grandparent is given a God-ordained role that is not interchangeable with any other member of the family. Come to this seminar to gain a laser-like focus on what a grandparent’s role is—according to the Bible. The content of this seminar is based on the book Biblical Grandparenting. If you are not a grandparent, this seminar will prove valuable as it will equip you to provide a clear and compelling vision to share with grandparents in your context.
All young people need older adults who care about them and are willing to enter into a real-life relationship with them. Ed Miller is passionate about encouraging and helping grandparents to become mentors for children and youth—even those who are not their grandchildren. Come to this session and learn how you can become part of this new army of mentor/coaches.
Keith Getty (co-writer of “In Christ Alone,” “The Power of the Cross,” and many other well-known modern hymns) and his wife Kristyn will be sharing their vision for family worship and the importance of strengthening the church and the family with a body of songs that can be sung for life. Join this important conversation and receive helpful instruction as Keith and Kristyn share from their experience and discuss your questions on these topics.
