Speaker: Ron Deal

Session: 1-03; November 2, 2017

An adult child’s remarriage, a stepparent who becomes a grandparent, and an empty nest wedding that gives birth to an adult stepfamily all result in multi-generational blended families. Nearly 40% of US families have a step- grandparent, but what is their role? How do you solidify a new marriage without alienating adult children? What if your former son or daughter-in-law cuts you out of your grandchildren’s life? How do you respect the different homes to which your grandchildren belong while still offering a spiritual influence? Blending, bonding, and grandparenting is complicated in blended families. Come learn what’s unique about blended families, how to help prepare or repair families, and the role of step-grandparents in three generational stepfamilies.

Speaker: Richard and Leona Bergstrom

Session: 2-03; November 3, 2017

Upon becoming grandparents, many Christian Boomers assume this new role is now their sole calling and purpose in life. While the relationships are unique, the opportunities profound, and the possibilities extraordinary, does God call us to be a grandparent, or is it one facet of our “Calling” for this season of life? Richard and Leona Bergstrom will explore the role of grandparenting within the larger context of life purpose and calling. Topics will include knowing your life purpose, understanding how your core values shape your grandparenting decisions, and sharing your story with the next generations.

Speaker: Abel Lopez

Session: 2-06; November 3, 2017

We love the good, the bad, and of course there is no ugly when it comes to our grandkids. How can we develop a balanced approach of love, affection and appreciation to each of our grandchildren? Can we establish healthy boundaries that help us intentionally distribute our love towards each of them in an equal way? Join lifelong youth worker, pastor and grandparent of 3 Abel Lopez as he insightfully shares his wisdom and ideas on how to manage your love resources to bless both your grandchildren and their parents.

Speaker: John Coulombe

Session: 3-02; November 3, 2017

There is no more priceless inheritance to hand down to your loved ones than your stories, lessons and blessings. One of the most understated, unused treasures ever given to families is their “memory bank.” Over the years deposits are made, but seldom retrieved! Unless we ‘mine’ the stories and histories of our past, special moments will be lost, history will repeat itself and Godly and human wisdom remain unattainable. Come learn how to bless your grandchildren with living eulogies of the people in their lives who matter the most to them.

Speaker: Larry Fowler

Session: 4-01; November 4, 2017

Here’s help for frustrated grandparents! Come learn what to do when your adult children won’t cooperate with your desire to influence your grandkids spiritually. Larry will give you two essential Biblical strategies that can guide you to a more effective approach as well as a new, open relationship with your whole family.

Why Are Grandchildren Leaving the Church and What Can Grandparents Do?

Speaker: Michael Bossman/Dan Britton/Julie Loos

Session: 1-06; November 2, 2017

The legacy of faith in your grandchildren’s generation is being severely challenged. Why? How? What can you do? Your relationship with your high school and college-aged grandchild affords you a platform to have conversations of consequence—ones that can help them stand firm in their faith in a world hostile to it. You can be key in stemming the tide of the youth exodus from the church. Join this panel discussion, followed by Q&A, to explore solutions to those challenges. Panelists will include staff members from Ratio Christi, a campus ministry that equips students, faculty, and congregations to give scientific, philosophical, and historical reasons for following Jesus Christ.

Speaker: Jim and Gail Dempsey

Session: 1-09; November 2, 2017

Grandparents have an awesome opportunity to assist in the character training of the next generation, but wisdom is needed to work in tandem with their grandkids' parents. Without a cooperative approach, grandparents can damage relationships with their grown children, and ultimately lose their opportunity to train their grandkids. Attendees walk away not only with great object lessons they can do immediately with their grandkids, they also learn key guidelines to maintain a cooperative spirit with their grandkids' parents.
