Are you raising a grandchild or know another grandparent who is? Kinship care is the fastest growing trend in American families. Find out why states are looking to families to reduce the growing numbers of children in foster care and the challenges these Grandfamilies face. Sherry Griffin is very experienced helping grandchildren who are raising their grandchildren and she will spend a good deal of time during this session fielding your questions and offering ideas and advice.
Your 9-month-old grandchild needs from you something different than your 16-year-old grandchild, your 48-year-old adult child or your 70-year-old spouse. When they each receive from you what they need at the right time they are able to ward off dysfunction and reach their God-given potential. You will be introduced to 25 contributions that every family member needs you to make as well as the resulting problems if they are not made (or come late). You will learn the next steps you can take to move your family from just "fine" to functional.
Do you want to help your grandchildren grow in their walk with the Lord? The eight strategies presented in this seminar are a synthesis of Josh's doctoral research regarding "best practices" that grandparents from across the country utilize to help grandchildren grow in spiritual maturity. You will walk away with practical tools and specific ways that you can invest in the spiritual growth of grandchildren. If you are not a grandparent, this seminar will equip you to train grandparents to disciple the younger generation.
Did you know that your grandchild may have an "iBrain?" Come learn how to communicate and connect with millennial kids who have been raised to depend upon technology and the ever-present screen (friend or foe?) Learn the 7 needs of your millennial/GenZ grandkids and learn how to influence and build relationships with them in a way that lasts.
If you have grandchildren with special needs or disabilities, this session is especially for you. Sherry Griffin will lead a discussion regarding the emotional and practical sides of grandparenting children with special needs or children with differing abilities. In addition, you'll learn about safety nets, resources, and planning for the future. Time will be allowed for Q & A so come expecting a lively discussion.
Wisdom comes with age but it also comes as a gift from God through special people. Dr. Jay Kesler has been a wise mentor to thousands of youth leaders, pastors, students, church and family members during his more than six decades of ministry. Come sit at the feet of one of the most respected Christian leaders of our generation and participate in a casual, free-flowing discussion of what matters most in ministry and in life.
In this breakout session, you'll go deeper into the life-changing gift of the Blessing that Dr. Trent and Dr. Chapman talked about in their previous session. Learn how you - and your grown children both - can create a culture that brings the Blessing home for that precious grandson or granddaughter. This session includes insights on what to do if you simply "didn't know" how to Bless your OWN children when they were young, and it will also provide "hands on" tools for creating and sharing a Blessing with both YOUR children and grandchildren today.
