In 2007, Catherine Jacobs found herself in the unexpected position of being divorced from her husband of 35 years. Broken and devastated, Catherine struggled to find her new place in life. Part of that struggle was learning to be a single grandmother. Never having been a single parent or grandparent before, this was a new playing field. In this session, Cathy will transparently share with you the insights that she has learned about single grandparenting (an art, not a science) and the important role that single grandparents can play in the lives of their grandchildren.
As your grandchildren grow, their needs, interests and capabilities change with each stage of life. That means the conversations you have with them will also need to change. A simple strategy straight from Scripture will give you direction on what to talk about with your grandkids and when to have those conversations. You'll be amazed by how the story of Joseph informs us about guiding kids today!
In many ways parenting is law and grand-parenting is grace. As grandparents, we don't have the authority we once had, but we can make important things fun and fun things important! Come to this breakout session and explore ways to make your "grandkid time" far from dull and a whole lot more fun for you and the kids. Not only will you learn a few creative and inexpensive ways to enjoy your grandkids, but you'll also have a chance to share your ideas with others (so bring them with you!) Come expecting to have some fun!
This is a two-part session for church leaders who want to learn how to create family ministries that include grandparents. These sessions will be led jointly by Kurt Bruner of HomePointe, along with Mark Holmen of Faith@Home, David Fraze of Sticky Faith and Ron Hunter of D6. You will learn how each of these approaches to family ministry uniquely address the issue of parent and grandparent involvement in the spiritual formation and discipleship of their children and grandchildren.
Ultimately it is the Holy Spirit of god who causes spiritual growth in our grandchildren, not us. Our job is to create spiritual space-or environments-in our homes which allow God's Spirit to move freely. In this seminar, Michelle Anthony will share with you an overview of the ten environments which form the heart of her book Spiritual Parenting: An Awakening for Today???s Families. You'll learn how to implement these environments in your home so that your grandchildren will be able to know and experience God, listen to his Holy Spirit and to learn how to follow Jesus on their own.
Here's help for frustrated grandparents! It's possible that your grandchildren's parents have become a too-frequent barrier to your well-intentioned grandparenting efforts. Maybe they aren't believers. Maybe they keep your grandkids so busy that you never get to see them. Maybe they just don't understand how important you are in their children's lives. Come and learn what to do when your adult children won't cooperate with your desire influence your grandkids for God. We'll discuss two essential Biblical strategies that can guide you to a more effective approach and maybe, a new and more open relationship with your whole family.
What makes you memorable? What will your grandkids remember most about you when you're gone? Join Steve & Valerie Bell as they share creative, doable initiatives and skills to influence, bless, and nurture your grandchildren for lasting impact--and leave a legacy for generations to come!
Grandparenting isn't so much a chance for a "do-over" as it is a chance to help share your experience and wisdom with your children (your grandchildren's parents) in a positive and helpful way. This happened naturally in the days when multiple generations lived together in the same house or same community. But today we have to find new ways to encourage and coach our children without interfering or creating family conflict. How can this be done with sensitivity, grace and love? This session will explore how grandparents can be a valuable resource for the next generation.
