The Bible is full of stories and examples of godly grandparenting and in this pre-conference session you will learn from Jacob, Naomi, Asa, Lois, Caleb, Joash, Joel, Jonathan, Noah and many others. You'll enjoy the winsome teaching style of Dr. Elmer Towns as he guides you through the ancient stories from scripture that still speak powerfully into our lives today. Bring your Bible and come prepared to learn what the Bible has to say about the importance of grandparenting.
Walking daily with Jesus is a great joy and responsibility, especially when we become grandparents. If we truly desire to make disciples of our grandchildren, then our own walk with Jesus must be fresh and current - not just stories from the 'good ol' days.' Keeping our own intake of God's word relevant...practicing our own prayer life...staying accountable and non-defensive to our peers who know us well...continuing in biblical community with people we respect...in other words all the things we hope and pray for our grandchildren being genuine in our own walk. Join us as we explore what it means to follow Jesus authentically in the second half.
Are you a geeky grandparent or do you sometimes flee from computers and smart phones? Regardless how tech-savvy you are, this workshop is for you! Kids do everything digitally these days, so prepare to discover a variety of creative ways that you can stay connected with your grandchildren in today's digital world. Whether you prefer the simple or the complex, we'll help you navigate past all the "iThis and iThats" and focus on those aspects of today's technology that will enhance relationships and give you some ideas for protecting your grandchildren from the dark side of the digital world.
If you are in a leadership position in your church, this seminar is for you. Dr. Canfield will highlight the trends and research that has been done on this emerging and very important demographic group who make up today's grandparents. You'll get a summary of the current research on grandparenting today as well as marketing insights that will enhance your ministry efforts. Come to this seminar and learn the most effective strategies for reaching, engaging and serving grandparents in your community.
Do you have an adult child who is struggling in their faith? Perhaps when they were young, they were growing in their walk with the Lord, but now they have turned away. Are you feeling frustrated in your efforts to offer them spiritual guidance? In this session, Dr. Rienow will encourage you with biblical and practical ways to deepen your relationship with your adult child and point them toward Christ. It is never too late!
God is dealing with us in grace. This doesn't mean there aren't rules, boundaries or consequences. But everything He does with us is done with our needs and best interests in mind. When we're on the receiving end of it, it not only tends to bring the best out of us, but also draws us closer to Him. In this seminar, we'll learn exactly what that grace looks like and how to make it the defining feature of our relationship with our grandchildren.
Nothing is more important for grandparents than to pray for their grandchildren. In this breakout session, you will be challenged to believe and trust that God is big enough to answer our prayers, and you'll be given a strategy for prayer that will enliven your prayer times and deepen your relationship with God. You'll also be given the opportunity to pray for your grandchildren (and their grandchildren's parents) using prayers directly from God's Word. You'll leave this session with a new confidence in the power of prayer and the tools you need to pray effectively.
This workshop will focus on what it means to build an effective grandparenting ministry that is nothing at all like the other ministry programs or departments at your church. One of the great fears many pastors have is that grandparenting will end up being another one of those major programs that will require additional staffing and one more thing to add to an already full plate. I think you will be pleasantly surprised to learn otherwise. Find out how to take one more bite without feeling full.
When your grandchildren become teenagers, you will have the opportunity to enter into a new and special kind of relationship with them. Come to this breakout and learn from a veteran youth leader (and grandparent to two teenagers) about the mindset of adolescents today and the world they are growing up in. You'll also get some practical tips for staying connected with your teen grandkids and helping them to make a smooth and healthy transition to adulthood.
